SYLHET DIVISION: THE TEA CAPITAL OF BANGLADESH

GENERAL INFORMATION


Sylhet Division is located to the north-east of Bangladesh and with an area of 12,595.95 sq km, it is bounded by Meghalaya State of India on the north, Tripura State of India on the south, Assam State of India on the east and Dhaka and Chittagong divisions on the west. This division has 79 million people, of which 50.47% are male and 49.53% are female. Religious affiliation of this division is - Muslim 81.16%, Hindu 17.80%, Christian 0.06%, Buddhist 0.02% and others 0.96%.

Sylhet is famous for the tea plantation and high rainfall during the year. Other than tea, this division produces rice, wheat, mustard, onion, garlic, betel leaf, vegetables, Orange, pineapple, mango, jackfruit, and litchi.
